US recognized Panama as a new nation 2 days after revolution started. Previously there had been strong nationalist movements. Hay Pauncefote Treaty permission granted by Panama for the US to dig a canal permitted by the British in order to make friends with US in hope of future support against Germany negotiated under Roosevelt greatly facilitated trade Panamanian revolution Panama revolted against Colombia after Roosevelt pushed it. The new ruling people allowed the United States to build the canal. Columbians would not let Americans build the canal, but then with the assistance of the United States a Panamanian Revolution occurred. Panama Canal The United States built the Panama Canal to have a quicker passage to the Pacific from the Atlantic and vice versa. The rebellion was ended by British troops. Boxer Rebellion 1899 rebellion in Beijing, China started by a secret society of Chinese who opposed the "foreign devils". (not good) Teller Amendment Legislation that promised the US would not annex Cuba after winning the Spanish-American war Guantanamo Military base granted to the US in Cuba which is now used as a prison Plaid amendment Americans had the right to intervene in affairs Open Door Policy A policy proposed by the US in 1899, under which ALL nations would have equal opportunities to trade in China. It also removed all soldiers form Cuba and recognized U.S. and was compensated with for $20 million from the U.S. 1898 Treaty of Paris Treaty for the Spanish-American war where Spain ceded Guam, Philippines, and Puerto Rico to the U.S.
